A Vision

Brought to Life

✻

Meet Tyler and Gina.  They didn’t grow up in the same city but little did they know their childhood memories would bring them together and become the roots of their family’s future.

Tyler, a professional golfer (CPGA) and teacher, grew up in Manitoba. It was there he learned to fish. The moment his father took him to Gem Lake, Tyler knew he was in his element. Nature was his playground and he explored every creek, river, trail and outdoor space he could find.

Four years later and about a thousand kilometers away, Gina was born to traditional Korea parents. A few years later her family settled down in Vancouver giving Gina and her brother Phil endless opportunities to embrace the beauty of BC. Summers were reserved for family adventures, whether it was fishing off the coast or hiking in the Interior.

Gina was in school to become a dental technician when she realized her dream was to be a business owner. Her entrepreneurial spirit is easily something she inherited from her father, Sam, a leader in the Korean-Canadian business community. Sam established a reputation as a passionate and dedicated businessman whose success was only rivaled by his unbridled love for the great outdoors. He was an avid golfer and fisherman who shared these passions with his children, and eventually their partners.

In 2011, while visiting Quatsino, Sam stumbled upon the land where Kagoagh Fishing Lodge stands today.  He instinctually knew the isolated acres on Hecate Cove were special. With a vision in his head, he put pen to paper and wrote up a contract to close a deal.

Sam approached Tyler and Gina with the prospect of building a fishing lodge on Hecate Cove and it was clear they shared his vision. All the pieces were there for an ambitious new family adventure.  So with a few bags they all said goodbye to Vancouver and set off to Quatsino.

The journey wasn’t easy. Tyler and Gina had never tackled anything this big and they needed help. Her parents and a dedicated team of thirteen tradesmen came on board. Together they put their hearts and souls into building Kagoagh Fishing Lodge. Along the way the family grew with the welcome additions of Rambo, a German Shepherd adopted from Arizona, and Tyler and Gina’s daughter, Eva, and son, Austin.

The Kagoagh team had their share of stumbles but overcame each obstacle with the tenacity and grace you would expect from a family pursuing a dream. Every individual who contributed put their own stake in the ground for Kagoagh to stand on today. Without them, the dream would still just be an idea.

Tyler and Gina invite you to share their memories while making room for your own. Since the doors officially opened in 2015, the family has welcomed people from across the province and around the world. From Tyler chartering the fishing boat to Gina’s cooking in the kitchen; guests are embraced by the love that created Kagoagh and the natural wonder that surrounds it. Transport yourself to see their vision brought to life. Kagoagh, rooted in family and built for the love of a good catch.
